Frequently Asked Questions - Performance ECU's

• Can I have Anti lag with this my factory ECU ?
  Yes you can, there is a feature that can be suppleid to allow the Factory ECU to be tuned to allow Anti Lag. (This is only available some ECU's). Please ask!
   
• Other companies tell me I need Anti lag for my car, do I need anti lag to get the best result?
   With the OEM ECU the throttle response and Torque that can be generated is often the same as a after market ECU with Anti lag. So often the A/L option is not needed with your OEM ECU. PLUS the OEM ECU constantly delivers more power and Torque over a given rally stage or race track than an after market ECU due to its advanced features, and its safer!
   
• If I get my ECU re tuned by an EcuTeK Tuner can my local Subaru dealer tell?
  Its not an obvious modification, and no warning buzzers or alarms go off when they (Subaru) service your car or connect to the car with factory equipment. But its not common for the Subaru dealer to connect to the car with their electronic diagnostic equipment unless there is a fault code to clear or problem with the car. We recommend you get your car serviced by MRT Performance and or a MRT / EcuTeK approved workshop.

• I already have a ECU Interceptor, http://www.ecutek.com.au/ecu_compare.htm  link with ("ECU comparison") will an EcuTeK re tune improve my car?
  Yes it will, as long as the interceptor or non std ECU, is removed. We have re fitted many cars with the OEM ECU and removed many interceptor chips and in every case we have improved the performance with a more reliable tune. Incredibly we have (yet) to see a car that can NOT be re tuned (with EcuTeK) to run with the factory ECU, some workshops say its not as good, but this is often because they cant offer EcuTeK !!

• If I sell my car can I transfer my EcuTeK license, to a new car or another car?
  All ECU's that are enhanced using EcuTeK software are hard coded, therefore its not possible to transfer the "program".      
  There are several solutions however:

1. You sell your car with the knowledge to the new owner that the car is benefiting form the safety and performance features of the EcuTeK update.
2. You sell your car with no other (Mechanical) modifications and do above, but have your local EcuTeK tuner modify (detune) the program to suit.
3. You sell / swap your ECU with another owner with a similar model.
   Either way, when you come back with your new car your local EcuTeK tuner will pass on a saving, this discount we offer as a way of saying thanks for coming back a second time.

• If I get my ECU re tuned by an EcuTeK Tuner and I (or Subaru) resets it or the battery is disconnected what happens?
  The ECU will revert to its "base" Map. This base map is the new map that has been flashed into your ECU by the EcuTeK Tuner. Your car can only revert to the Subaru base map if its re flashed by Subaru (this is very rare and often you are advised first) or an EcuTeK tuner.

• I already have a boost controller, can I still use this?
  Yes, if you wish your EcuTeK tuner can tune and adjust your ECU to work with your separate Boost controller.

• What is better, the factory boost controller or a stand alone separate unit?
  Typically in most cases the Factory system, when re tuned correctly (with EcuTeK software) to suit, is better. Best consult your local tuner as all cars and modifications vary.

• Does an EcuTeK retune effect my boost?
  Depending on your Model, yes it may, but generally this is a very modest change as boost is one of the many settings that is improved. At all times safety is of utmost Priority.

• I have an Auto model, can my car be enhanced?
  Yes, we have done many auto models, however EcuTeK Software (at present) can not adjust the Automatic transmission settings as this is a separate ECU to the ECU that runs the engine.

• I can only get low grade premium fuel and not 98, can my car be improved?
  Yes, typically your EcuTeK tuner can gain you better performance even on 95 ron fuel when your car is factory tuned to run on 98. (refer the magazine stories for a data sheet)

• If my car is re tuned to run on 95 Ron, what will happen when I fill up with 98?
  Depending on your model, the results will vary, typically it will go better, but not as good as if it was tuned to suit 98

• If my car is re tuned to run on 98 Ron, what will happen when I fill up with 95?
  Depending on your model, the results will vary, typically it will NOT go as good, and we do not recommend this, but we know it can happen, so we build in high safety settings to protect your engine from detonation, (often safer than the factory settings)

• My ECU has pre set factory speed limiter can this be removed?
  Yes, all enhanced ECU's have the speed limiter raised to a 255 km/h.

• I am not near a EcuTeK reseller or tuner, can I send you my ECU for programming?
  Yes, you can, but please contact us prior to removing it.

• If I send my ECU do I get my own ECU back?
  If you request this, yes you do.

• How long does it take to get my ECU re programmed by post?
  Typically we ship them out the afternoon of the day we receive them.

• Where do I find the ECU to remove it and is this difficult to do?
  No its easy, please contact us, but typically its under the passenger foot rest.
